BIPOC Satsang: How to Keep Your Heart Open in Hell
April 16, 2024 @ 5:00 pm - 6:15 pm PDT
To armor oneself and one’s heart seems to be the most common human defense mechanism against the immense suffering in the world. The war, poverty, homelessness, tyranny, rape, pollution, the genocide. It is all seemingly too much to bear. Yet somehow Maharajii implores us to remember that it is all perfect. This doesn’t mean we simply chock everything up to karma and turn a blind eye to pain. Nor does it mean we give everything away as we try to give back to a suffering world. The paradoxical ask then, is how do we rest in the place between our humanity and perfection to find true compassion – to do what we do to relieve suffering while having faith in the notion that it is all as it must be. This is a particularly difficult ask for those of us who due to our own identities as BIPOC individuals, cannot help but empathize with the “other” being othered. Cannot help but recognize the intersectionality of struggles, and are enraged/horrified/terrified/disheartened in a way that white folks may never be able to fully understand. Come discuss how we as BIPOC spiritual beings can support each other, and all others, in keeping our hearts open in hell, in order to work toward creating the paradise we all know is possible.
For those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color.
