Fellowship Livestream: The Power of Meditation with Sharon Salzberg
June 6, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm PDT
The Three Skills of Concentration, Mindfulness & Compassion
Meditation practice is far simpler, more fun, less esoteric and much more relevant to the wide-ranging situations we encounter in everyday life than we might imagine. Rather than an ornate, arcane set of instructions, meditation consists of practical tools to help deepen Concentration, Mindfulness and Compassion. Concentration steadies and focuses our attention so that we can let go of distractions. Distractions waste our energy; concentration restores it to us. The introductory meditation technique you’ll learn is uncomplicated and startlingly powerful: You’ll improve your concentration by focusing on something you’ve known how to do all your life—breathing. The next skill, Mindfulness, refines our attention so that we can connect fully and directly with whatever life brings.
Mindfulness helps us get better at seeing the difference between what’s happening and the stories we tell ourselves about what’s happening, at not treating a fleeting mind state as if it’s our entire and permanent self. Lastly, we will explore the skill of Compassion, opening our attention through lovingkindness practices to become more inclusive, and in doing so, transforming the way we treat ourselves, our family, and our friends. We will spend time paying careful attention to our thoughts, feelings, and actions (positive and negative) and accepting them opens our hearts to loving ourselves genuinely for who we are, with all our imperfections. Experience for yourself the practical and transformational power of meditation. Session includes teaching, discussion, q/a period, and guided practice. Suitable for both beginning and more experienced meditators.

Hi Dear Sharon,
I’m very much looking forward to your talk, The Power of Meditation tonight. I’ve always enjoyed and been uplifted and enlivened from the teachings you have given in the years of my following Ram Dass, through the Foundation. As a Buddhist myself, I feel our insights chime and your compassion touches me deeply.
My question is please, whether there is likely to be a transcript of this teaching as I’d very much like to share it with someone who would benefit and is registered deaf.
With great gratitude,
Hi Carol,
Unfortunately, there is no transcript available for this talk at this time, apologies. We are working to become more accessible, but at the moment Livestream does not allow automatic transcriptions.
I am a seeker, a student of ‘Self Inquirt’ of Maharshi Ramana’s School of Thought for a long time. The problem is I suffer from
severe Bronchitis since 50 yrs, a hereditary ailment – please advice.
Will this be available as a recording to access later? I keep losing the livestream.

As I am sure many other people who tried to attend the 5pm session “The Power of Meditation with Sharon Salzberg” also experienced, the audio came on in separate spurts with long blank spaces in between. So I would like to know how I can listen to all of Sharon’s obviously excellent presentation, without breaks or omissions. Thank you for any assistance or suggestions you can offer as to how I can listen to the entirety of Sharon’s presentation.
Thank you very much,
Jon Landaw
