Ram Dass realized that the Western religious traditions were not profound enough to connect people to their inner selves, they did not provide man with the wisdom necessary to know inner peace and fulfillment. So he traveled to the East and connected with yoga (union with God). After encountering yoga, he was able to come back into the Western traditions and hear the inner message. He went to the East to break the barrier of cynicism around Western religions.
This is a wonderful comment. It is very exciting to realize that when we come to Being=Unity=Peace that we realize that the inner core of Western religion is about Being and Oneness with God. Then we begin to realize some of the great profundity at the core of Western religions–which many of the practioners themselves seem not to realize. It was Eckhart Tolle who turned me on to some of the great inner meaning behind Jesus’ messages in the New Testament. Eckhart was looking at the passages through the vision of an Eastern sage. Thank you, Baba Ram Dass for this enlightening view of Western religion!
Thank you for another great podcast. Both your intros Raghu, and Ram Dass’s talks help so much.
